- Eye Examinations
Great vision is just an exam away.
A yearly eye exam is the cornerstone of overall vision health. It’s just as important as an annual general checkup! Even if you don’t wear glasses or contacts or have a specific vision concern, it’s imperative to get your eyes checked routinely — many conditions, such as glaucoma have no obvious symptoms, and effective treatment depends on early detection. If you do wear corrective lenses, your annual exam is key to ensuring that your prescription stays current, and your eyes stay healthy. If you have had laser surgery to correct your vision, an annual checkup is a crucial part of your ongoing eye care. And if you have other health issues, your vision could be impacted without proper preventative treatment.
We know you’re busy. We know your time is valuable. We offer morning and late afternoon appointments for your convenience. And so we strive to ensure that every patient is seen as quickly as possible. We offer morning and late afternoon appointments for your convenience. You’ll find that your exam will be fast, friendly, and effective. We’ll get you fitted for your new frames and contacts — in a snap. And you’ll see the world even better than before.
Routine Eye Exam
Regular eye exams are an important part of good ocular health care. Routine eye exams can detect eye diseases at an early stage, identify patients who may be susceptible to vision problems as they get older, and even uncover undiagnosed illnesses that aren’t directly related to vision.
What is involved in a Routine Eye Exam?
- A comprehensive vision exam
- Screening for eye diseases or conditions without symptoms
- Performing refractive tests to determine if a patient needs prescription lenses
- Determining a treatment plan to treat eye conditions or diseases
- Education on maintaining and promoting healthy vision

Optical Boutique at Somerset Ophthalmology
The Optical Boutique provides high quality eyewear for everyone. Our frame selection is tailored to meet every style and budget. Our experienced opticians will help you select the perfect frames and lenses, then customize them to meet your needs.
Progressive Lenses
Many people feel the effects of presbyopia. This natural condition reduces our ability to focus up close as we age. At Somerset Ophthalmology we carry Essilor lenses, including the Varilux portfolio of products. This provides a wide field of view for all ranges of distance.
Digital Measurements
Providing your best vision requires the best measurements. At Somerset Ophthalmology we use a digital measuring system that captures ten different points of data with one image. Modern digital lenses use this information to compensate for “as worn” fit, creating a truly customized experience.
Non-Glare Lenses
A Non-Glare or “Anti-Reflective” lens treatment allows more light to pass through the lens. This eliminates glare from surface reflections. Non-Glare lenses provide the best vision in low light and high concentration activities such as driving at night or extended screen use. Current Non-Glare treatments also make the lens more scratch resistant.
Sunglasses
Everyone should have a pair of high-quality sunglasses. Our Optical Boutique carries a number of fashionable and functional sunglass styles. Every pair of sunglasses we offer provide 100% UV-A and UV-B protection. As well as protection from the sun’s harmful rays, Polarized Sun Lens are essential to eliminate blinding glare in high sun situations like driving and boating.
Contact Lenses
Would you like to have the option of wearing contacts for everyday use or special occasions? Our Doctors can prescribe the best lens for you to meet your comfort and vision needs.
We offer all kinds of lenses, depending on your needs.

Maintain a healthy and balanced diet. Foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids, lutein, zinc, and vitamins C and E might help ward off age-related vision problems like macular degeneration and cataracts.
Stop Smoking. Smoking can result in an increased opportunity for cataracts, damage to your optic nerve, and macular degeneration.
Utilize safety glasses. Proper safety eyewear can eliminate or significantly reduce the risk of damage to the eye while engaging in sports or working with hazardous or airborne materials
Wear sunglasses. A proper pair of sunglasses provide protection from harmful UV rays and polarized lenses can reduce glare while driving. Reducing expose to UV rays can help reduce the risk of macular degeneration and cataracts.
Take periodic breaks from phone and computer screens. Prolonged screen use can result in blurred vision, dry eyes, eyestrain, headaches, and sore muscles. Rest your eyes every 20 minutes. Look 20 feet away for 20 seconds. Get up at least every 2 hours and take a 15-minute break.
