What to Expect

When you need an “eye doctor,” come to Somerset Ophthalmology and be seen by board-certified physicians.
On your first visit to Somerset Ophthalmology you will have a comprehensive thorough eye examination. Be prepared to spend about one and a half to two hours at our office.
Upon arrival you can check in at the front desk where they will supply you with all the necessary paperwork to get your examination started. Be sure to bring a valid driver’s license, your current insurance card and a list of any medications that you are currently taking. We ask that you arrive a few minutes prior to your appointment to allow adequate time to fill out your paperwork. However if you have access to a printer you can find all the necessary paperwork here ready to download and print if you wish to fill them out prior to your visit.
After all of your current information is collected a technician will take you back to an exam room and perform some preliminary testing on your eyes and vision. We can check for an updated glasses or contact prescription at the time as well. Eye pressure is check on patients to monitor for glaucoma and drops are followed to dilate your eyes. The dilation drops do blur your near vision and cause light sensitivity for a few hours. Although many patients do drive themselves to their appointment, some patients prefer a driver because of the dilation. The doctor will then see you after your eyes are fully dilated and perform a complete examination checking every part of your eye. A few problems the doctor will check for are cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration, dry eye and diabetic retinopathy.
There is also a full Optical Boutique at the office where you can order your new glasses or contacts at your convenience.
We look forward to seeing you!
